To SCHEDULE a BIP Assessment, please read carefully -

The OVM BIP Program is certified through the Kansas Attorney General’s Office to provide BIP Assessment and BIP Programming. OVM BIP provides assessment for individuals who are court ordered to complete a BIP Assessment.

Verify that we can provide you with services. Can you answer YES to all of the following statements right now:

✔  I have been before a judge and been ordered/sentenced to get a BIP assessment.
✔  I have a diversion officer, probation officer or parole* officer, or report regularly to a city or county clerk for a similar type of supervision.

*If you are on parole with KDOC, please select a Wednesday assessment date.
✔  I can pay the assessment fee in full at least 24 hours before my appointment.
  • Cost for assessment = $150. You may pay in smaller installments ahead of the appointment, as long as we have received the full amount at least 24 hours in advance of your appointment.
(unless your court-assigned PO is Carrie Smith of Newton Municipal Court, in which case you do NOT need to pay OVM for the assessment)
  • Your appointment will be canceled and you will need to reschedule if payment is received after the 24 hour point.
✔  I can access internet, have an internet-capable device with camera and microphone, and have access to a space where I will be uninterrupted for up to two hours during my appointment.**
  • You may not be in a moving vehicle. You must not be responsible for children during the appointment.
  • Currently all assessments take place via RingCentral video call. **If you do not have internet access or are unable to operate the RingCentral app, please select a Wednesday assessment so OVM staff can assist you with equipment in our office.

If you answered NO to any of the above questions, OVM is not able to provide your assessment at this time.

What happens after the assessment?
The assessment will determine if you are appropriate for BIP group.  We will notify your supervising officer with a recommendation in 2-4 weeks.
If you are found appropriate:
  • You will participate in an orientation appointment ($30 fee)
  • You will need to attend for credit for 24 weeks' worth of weekly group sessions. Group also operates via Ring Central video call or in a hybrid format in our office. There are weekday and evening groups. You will indicate your preferences for session schedule at orientation.
  • Group session fees start at $30 per class and may be reduced on a sliding scale based on financial need.

Primary program goals include
  • Increasing the safety of victims and families
  • Encouraging participants to name and evaluate the impact of their behavior
  • Developing non-controlling and nonviolent skills for relating in intimate relationships
