Open Positions

Restorative Justice Associate

Position Summary: Work in collaboration with CJP Director to meet the demands of truancy cases, primarily in Harvey County. Responsibilities include contact with students, families, and school representatives, including intake interviews, arranging for and convening Truancy Neighborhood Accountability Boards, and follow-up, as necessary. Additional responsibilities may include facilitating Restorative Conferences and Neighborhood Accountability Boards (NAB). If applicant is not currently a KS Supreme Court certified mediator, opportunity to become certified will be provided.

Responsibilities
  • Administration: Thoroughly document client interactions and services provided, tracking client participation, upholding policy and procedure, communicating with team members and referral sources, maintaining methods for data collection and analysis.
  • Client Engagement: Work directly with students, families and school personnel, walking them through the restorative process from start to finish, including orienting all parties to the process, conducting intake interviews, addressing concerns, scheduling meetings, all ongoing or follow-up communications, and referral to other services, as applicable.
  • Understand: Work to understand each participant’s point of view throughout restorative processes, centering the needs and experience of the student. This involves ensuring timely contact with student and guardian at the start of the restorative process, maintaining positive contact in all instances where participants indicate willingness.
  • Facilitation: Utilizing restorative justice principles, personally facilitate Truancy Neighborhood Accountability Boards and/or coordinate with other facilitators.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Engage Community Justice Program volunteers as facilitators and community representatives. Maintain healthy relationships with volunteers and advocate for positive volunteer experience.
  • Other: Participate in other office functions as requested, such as regular staff meetings and OVM promotional events.

Work Status: Part Time (beginning 10 hours/week, as cases increase up to 20 hours/week); flexible schedule with provisions for accommodating diverse client schedules. Ideal work season is Sept 1 – May 15.

Salary: $17.00/hour

Reports to: Director of Community Justice Program

Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree. In fields of restorative justice, conflict resolution, social work, psychology, or education preferred
  • Experience as a group facilitator; Kansas Supreme Court approved mediator preferred or willing to get training to become approved
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to exercise compassion and accountability with all involved in the restorative justice system
  • Demonstrate sound professional judgment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to listen with discernment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to restorative justice
  • Willingness to work evening and daytime hours as necessary
